Bookmaker winners

United Kingdom

Catherine Unsworth from Liverpool was listed in the Guinness Book of Records in 1998 thanks to her lucky betting. The native of the city, famous for its soccer club, bet 10 pence on odds of 3410. The lady bet on the races, and when the British woman won, the betting company suffered huge losses.

France

A banker with no knowledge of sports compiled a parlay of ten events that he liked. He won 6.5 million euros and more than half of it was donated to charity.

Greece

The 2004 European Championship was held in Greece. Almost no one believed that the host team of the tournament would win. But true fans stick with their team till the end. The Greek player decided to put 7000 dollars on the victory of his national team in the European Championship. Bookmakers did not believe in it and estimated the odds of the event passing at 50.
Greece’s entry into the playoffs knocked the odds down to 10. Then the bettor decided to bet twice as much on the same outcome. Angelos Haristeos’ goal in the 57th minute of the match brought $607,000 to the Greek fan. The fan, of course, was doubly happy for his country.

Russia

Big winnings in domestic bookmakers are no exception.

  • The details of the bet were not disclosed, but a businessman from Moscow in 2010 decided to bet on his favorite tennis player’s victory in the Australian Open. The bet brought the player 30 million rubles in winnings.
  • The absence of odds limits in the early days of the betting market helped the player to earn 150 million rubles from the odds of 3000000. The bettor made a parlay of soccer matches and NHL games, betting only 50 rubles. The result was a bet with one of the biggest odds in the history of Russian bookmakers.

Limit cutting

Often bettors who have won large sums in a betting company are faced with the bookmaker’s cutting of limits. This is what unscrupulous bookmakers without a license do.

  • A bet of 59 pounds by Daren Yates in a sweepstakes served as an excuse to cut the limits. The Briton bet at odds of 25,000, but the amount of his winnings were cut threefold.
  • 3,000 pounds from 55 was a success, but Edward Hodson bet at odds of 3956748. He could not take the full winnings due to the rules of the bookmaker’s office and the absence of a similar amount from the organizer of the sweepstakes.
It is quite possible to win at bets, as each of the above examples proves. And to do this does not need to thoroughly follow the selected sport for betting. Sometimes bettors need only luck and a little bit of luck. Betting should be done only in licensed bookmaker’s offices.
